a friend is looking at a budget ready built desktop based on either of these 2 cpu. difference in price is approx another £23 to upgrade from option 1 to 2

option 1 = Intel® Celeron® D Processor 351 (3.20GHz, 533FSB, 256k cache)

option 2 = Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor 521 with HT technology (2.80GHz, 800MHz fsb, 1MB cache)

i am not really up on current cpu specs (am still running my overclocked barton :) )

so the question is it worth him upgrading for the money

Well not knowing the rest of the spec it's difficult to be 100% accurate but on face value I'd say the upgrade is very worth £23.

For every day tasks there won't be much in either machine but overall I would pay the extra to get the Pentium 4 over the celeron.

Although I must admit the celeron 336 (2.8ghz) in my mums pc has suprised me.

and four times the cache, and a faster bus, hell overclocking it would make it so worth it, 4Ghz not out of the question with good cooling ;)
