Well i just got one of these for a bit of a play.. Mainly for a little itx project i am gonna be working on.. So the question is that i know that these are mega clockers but could i run one passive with a decent copper cooler like zalman etc...

Let us know how you get on, mine arrived about an hour ago :D Mines in and running, but i havent got 4Ghz stable yet (i think it might be my mobo holding me back.) Running at 3.2Ghz at the moment to come on here and get some advice on ramping up the speed. Its only cost £5 extra to "upgrade" from a core 2 E4300 so even if i cant get it over the 3.2Ghz mark ive not really lost anything.

Dual cores passive work fine if there's airflow. For £9 this

held a stock e8400 at 65 under ibt in an antec mini P180. That's about as rubbish a heatsink as money can buy and it was fine under reasonable airflow.

The lower the available airflow, the better the heatsink will need to be. What sort of case do you have in mind?

I have an antec NSK1300 on order so will need something thats a bit low pricile. So will wait till it comes to measure. May just run it with a stock cooler from a Q9650.

Yours arrived yet? I'm up to 3.6Ghz after a Vdroop mod to my board but it just doesnt seem to want to take 12x333Mhz. Im happy with what i've got its just bugging me i know theres that bit more there.

My cpu has but need a case to build it into.. gonna be after the weekend.. What board are you using?

Ah cool, im sure you'll be pleased when its built i know i am. The board im using at the moment is an ASUS P5K-VM. Its never been great for overclocking, i didnt expect it to be to be honest with it being a matx board. I'm looking around for a cheapish atx board thats a better clocker, i can go up to an atx board now as i recently changed my case to a Lian-Li PC-A05.
