Certain folders inaccessible on my wife's account?

I have a whole hard disk with various folders and files downloaded via bit torrent and recently some folders (some of the more recently downloaded ones, but not all of them) are impossible to access on any user account other than my own. They're on the same disk, in the same directory as other folders which work fine, so as far as i can tell there isn't a 'lock' in place.

I just get a message saying 'I:\xxxxxx.xxx.xxx is inaccessible - access is denied'. Any ideas?

Right click the folder->Properties->Security tab. Then add the other users/groups to the ACL.

do you mean the 'sharing' tab? It tells me i need to drag each folder i want to share to the shared documents folder, which isn't really practical due to hd space limits on the c:\

I'm at a loss as to why it's only a few select folders on this drive though that are inaccessible. It seems to mainly be the recently downloaded files/folders which are affected.

Sounds like you have Windows XP home. You can get to the security tab if you go into safe mode, take ownership of the folder and then reapply correct permissions.

thanks, i have xp pro sp2 though.

I will try the safe mode thing. cheers.

edit: managed to change the folder options to see the security tabs and managed to sort it out. :)
