Hi Mate

I have a nearly exact same set up as you and was getting the same freezing and sound looping probs.
What i did was download rivatuner and set up fan speeds to be higher than the defaults , touch wood i dont have hardly any freezes now with the 169.09 drivers as well.
Hope this helps ya it did me :)

Freezing usually happens when the gpu is clocked too high.

Try setting the gpu back to 650 and see if that fixes it. If it does, then you'll need to either improve the cooling, rma the card, or live with a lower clock speed.

I get that on one game. I got the GTX OC2, so you wouldnt expect it to be that, unless it needs RMAing. Might up the fan speed then in rivatuner

not overclocked at all and watercooled GPU at a steady 56degrees very odd

I wasn't suggesting you had overclocked it, I was commenting on the fact that the 8800 Ultra Leviathan comes factory overclocked, and not all cores can take the overclock imposed by the vendor.

It's not unusual for a factory OC'd card to have a core that can't quite handle the overclock, and system lock-ups are a classic symptoms of such a card. Testing at stock Ultra speed (612) should let you know either way.
