CES 2025 Wishlist

I don't get this obsession with 4K 27". Feels far too small for that resolution to me. 32" minimum.

Many prefer a 27" monitor for productivity and certain types of gaming if you're sitting close to it. Plus you also benefit from the higher PPI and pixel density for reading text or if you do need to use a scaled resolution in Windows/MacOS.

Not that there's anything wrong with 32" 4K. NIce to have more size options depending on your usage as until now 32" 4K OLED has been the smallest available.

32" is too much 'info' and brightness for my aging mind to absorb on a desk. I feel like I'm sitting too close to a TV half the time. Web browsing feels iffy and first person games can make me nauseous.

27" is a much nicer all rounder size and I say that with a 27" and a 32" on my desk (as in literally now, as I type).

1440p is potato mode compared to 4k.

32” is far too large to be sitting close to IMO. If i were 18 i could probably get away with it but my head and eyes wouldn’t be able to handle it now. 27 is a much better size, much more comfortable.

I guess, given that Samsung make the panels, it's no surprise that they have a new 27" 4K G8 (G81SF) OLED coming out as well!

I wonder if they'll keep the matte coating they had on the previous 32" 4K OLED G8 (sounds like it from the description on their own press release)? I think I'd prefer a glossy coating personally.

I’m sure there’s better comparison photos but here’s a 24”, 27” and 32” (curved) monitor on my ginormous 96cm deep desk. Yes, I’m compensating… :o

Thought it might be helpful for anyone choosing between the various sizes.

What a whopper the 32” is! Such a massive jump in screen height.

I played around with them again and… yeah, I’d say 32” is best when you’re able to sit at a comfortable distance (for some reason sitting further away from a screen is always better and more ‘luxurious’ feeling) this requires me to sit away from my desk. Keyboard and mouse games, especially shooters, are just… ‘overwhelming’.

The 24” is 1080p and an absolute potato even though 360 fps is very pleasing. So I’m definitely out for the ultra high refresh ones that will be announced.

Will there be any new 27" 1440P OLEDs this year, or am I better off just going for one of last year's models? As you can tell by my username, a new monitor is my main tech target for 2025. :o

Yeah, they've announced new 27" 500hz QD-OLEDs at 1440p that'll be out this year. You'll have some nice price drops on the 2024 models so it depends if you think you need 500hz, the 360hz ones are already pretty fantastic.

Sorry if this is old news but this is really promising from the ASUS website:

Hopefully not long for the UK :)

That looks like a lushious desk, where did you get it man?

Thanks dude. It's from Worktop Express and Better Kitchens. Yes, really :p

It's a kitchen worktop placed on top of some kitchen cabinets - not fixed. The worktop weighs a ton, it took 6 of us to get it up the stairs... (I opportunistically arranged this when hosting a BBQ). There's some bonus adjustable legs at the back supports at the back which I think were just from Amazon, screwed in. Old pic but so you can get a better idea:

It's pretty swish :)

Looks like the MSI version of the 27" 4k 240hz is already showing up on certain sites to buy from next week in France, priced at 1200€.

Most 32” 4k OLED monitors seem to be priced around £850-1050 so I’d assume the 27” variants will be similar when they come out.
