I've been buying vouchers for cex on here and on a different forum. On this different forum a guy messaged me and said he had a voucher for 80% face value and he would send it to me first. I tested the voucher and it went through. His email address looked a bit dodgy, so I setup the payment on PayPal and googled his name. A reddit post appeared and hes been doing this on loads of forums.

The odd thing is the voucher worked. Hes now saying I scammed him. I've contacted cex to cancel the order and return it to the original voucher but I dont know what they'll do..

I can only imagine hes been stealing people's vouchers and selling them? Then the person who uses it gets caught. Cex say they will assist with the police for any vouchers used fraudently.

Just a bit of an odd one and a bit worrying!

I haven't paid for the voucher as I read online hes been scamming tons of people. This is on reddit tens of posts. I've asked cex to cancel the order and return to original voucher..

I dont understand what I'm supposed to do here. People say pay him but why are people saying hes sending fraudulent vouchers on reddit

But if you've got your money (I presume actually have a product you bought with the card) then paying him is you scamming him?

Doesn't matter if he's illegally scamming others, doesn't give you excuse to be criminal
I haven't got anything. I cancelled the order and have asked cex to return the amount to the original voucher which he provided me.

My head hurts

So you used the voucher...but you don't have a item, or items of full value of the voucher. So how have you used it, what do you have of the value of the voucher?
You haven't paid him

So how have you been scammed?
Ok probably didnt explain it well.

Person contacted me on a well known forum. He said he would send the voucher first. I tested it and ordered something. He sent me his email address to pay by ppg. His email address was a bit fishy so I googled his name based on his PayPal account. His name appeared on a reddit post with tens of messages about him scamming people. People saying he sent fraudulent vouchers etc. I didnt pay him as I thought my order would just get cancelled. He then said I scammed him, hes now deactivated on that forum by a moderator. I contacted cex to cancel the order and return the value to the original voucher. What else could I have done...

Why on earth would you use the voucher before you’d even paid him?

I don’t understand this.
Because you can't check whether its actually valid otherwise? Not a mistake I'm going to make again. Its on CEX to resolve this now.

I've sent them this

I need to report an issue regarding an order placed using a voucher code I received.

A person contacted me via a well-known forum (xxx) offering a CeX voucher for lower than face value. He sent the voucher code first, which I tested and successfully used to place an order. Afterwards, he asked me to pay him via PayPal Friends & Family. When I checked his email and name, I discovered multiple reports online alleging that he has been scamming people by sending fraudulent vouchers.

Based on this, I did not proceed with payment, as I believed the order would likely be cancelled once the voucher was identified as fraudulent. The individual has since been banned by the forum moderators.

I immediately contacted you to request that the order be cancelled and that the voucher value be returned to its original source, so there is no loss to CeX.

Could you please confirm that:

The order is cancelled, and
The voucher credit is restored to the rightful account, ie not sent to me.
I want to ensure that I have acted responsibly and that no fraudulent activity is associated with my account.

Sounds like a minefield. If you’re not prepared to take the risk on it being a real voucher, I don’t think you should be buying vouchers in this way. Seems like for the savings involved it’s not worth it.
It could be a real voucher but he could be stealing vouchers off people then selling them. Then the person buying it is using a fraudulent voucher and cex comes after them.

My thoughts on it were
- why would I pay a person who is scamming people?
- I contact cex to cancel the order and return the value to the original voucher so I dont benefit in any way and cex can look into this.

I will be very hesistant in buying vouchers off anyone anymore.

I still don't understand how you can legitimately use a voucher code to make a purchase online and then that is somehow fraudulent.

The voucher code worked and the goods ordered presumably to your address. How can it then be cancelled/reversed by a third party?
Well cex say on their website any codes obtained fraudently will be escalated to police...

I've seen a lot of cex voucher sales on AVforums where as I understand it the voucher works initially as it is valid but the seller then reports the code as stolen, so cex blocks it.

It usually seems to be a seller with a load of codes to sell at once.

Just check out the disputed sales section...

This must be what he was going to do. Thank you
