I just purchased a cheap tablet for my DJI Phantom 4 drone from CEX. When I was setting it up I noticed a 4G connection and getting the Vodafone app it appears to be active:

Should I ring them up and cancel it, throw the SIM away or just keep using it?

Could be stolen or a stupid seller, throw away the sim or take the tablet back to the shop, don't use it, someone else is paying for it, could quite possibly be theft of the service if you use it.

I have yet to check the device on checkmend, it was only a £50 Tablet was quite scratched. Is there any free alternatives?

Sounds like it's stolen.

Have you checked the device on CheckMend?

Wouldn't the device be blocked if it were on checkmend?

But I'd report it and be looking for refund from cex. Definitly wouldn't use that sim at the least but would send cex an email stating it happened and get a response just incase it gets blocked further down the line. At least you have a comeback then.

Looks tonne like its part of their mobile deal, as it has calls and texts included. Like a colleague of mine, she got an iPhone and iPad from voda, she could use the data on the iPad too. Similar price.

I may be wrong.

Just destroy the SIM and move on, Vodafone will do nothing more than bar it if you ring them which isn't worth your time or effort if you destroy it anyway.

Could ring Vodafone and see if you provide them with the phone number and/or SIM number they can contact the person on another number that they might have with Vodafone. In case of a stolen tablet you can then both go back to CeX, you should get your money back and he should get his tablet back.

Small chance but worth a shot. Worst case scenario, as Shaun said, Vodafone will block it but that doesn't mean you can't go back to CeX and tell them what happened.

May I ask what CeX shop this was bought at (know a couple store managers throughout the country)? PM if you prefer.

Other could be mpay features such as buying services additional services charged to your SIM (In-app purchases, some gambling sites also support this). From the app can you see if the customer has other lines registered with VF? If so you could drop one of them a message and let them know you found their old SIM in a purchased tablet, although I'd strongly suggest against it.

Destroy the SIM and move on as already said.

Unpaid bills probably

Those charges are current unbilled charges which are within the current billing cycle, not a carried forward balance.
