So I have resurrected my old combat flight simulator 3, and want to put this on my windows 11 pc, but of course I have no cd drive on my laptop, as they are as rare as a spare tyre in a car these days.
However I do have an older Lenovo laptop which does have a disc drive.
I was advised by AI to copy over the files onto a USB chip, and copy onto the new laptop, which is what I have done, but when I try to run the CFS3 setup, it asks for CD1 and then CD2....
I have tried to copy all the files into a Microsoft Games directory, and put a shortcut on my desktop, but when I run it, there are errors with files missing.

So I would ask you experts, how do I get this to run on my new PC.

You'll probably need to image the disc and mount it at the very least as it'll be trying to check the disc for copy protection, simply copying the files is unlikely to work but I could be wrong and even imaging the discs may not work. There are ways around it but I'm not sure what the official stance here is for discussing this sort of stuff for games that are so old. A USB disc drive can be had for not a lot which would bypass that part of the issue: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...-black-cyberlink-power2go-7-bl-cd-068-as.html

There's a forum post here discussion how to get it running on windows11 here, possibly a starting point: https://forum.flyawaysimulation.com...uide-to-installing-combat-flight-simulator-3/

That said, you'd probably be better off simply getting a sim that is somewhat newer unless your heart is absolutely set on playing CFS3. The base version of IL2 Sturmovik can be had here for instance: https://store.steampowered.com/app/307960/IL2_Sturmovik_Battle_of_Stalingrad/

thanks for the info
I'll try both suggestions

CFS3 that's a blast from the past, loved the CFS games back in the day.

Got all three in a box somewhere. I've resisting installing because they always look worse than you remember.
