disney/pixar dreamworks and all the CGI stuff. Yes it can be great but has one ever come close to the last true disney film, the lion king?? Will we see true animation again?

I'll say that i'm getting dull of them, if they had the advertising/appeal that Shrek did then I would probably see them. That said, if they had that appeal then I would they were ripping off Shrek so yea, I would say i'm getting bored of them :S

monsters inc + toy story are awesome, ice age's are good, shrek is poor.. not even eddie murphy could save it (this is probably influenced by my dislike for mike myers -sp?)

Since Finding Nemo, the only decent CGI film has been Over The Hedge

Oh, and Final Fantasy: Advent Children :D

They are aimed at children remember.

Not really.

I loved the early ones. Toy Story and TS2 were both fantastic -- well up there with any 'proper' Disney stuff. As was Monsters Inc. That's hilarious.

There's been a bit of a lull now, as they've started just churning them out without much thought. Flushed Away being one example of someone thinking 'everyone loves CGI, lets do that'. It looks terrible, and it's Aardman! (Why?) I havent been interested in seeing any of the newer ones at all.

I must say I really enojoyed watching over christmas:

Cars
Over the hedge (hammy on caffeine made me literally lol)
Finding Nemo
Ice age 1 & 2 (scrat makes both films - especially the ninja scene in 2).

I quite like films like these as I find them just funny (without the over the top effort that seems to go into most 'comedies')

So I completely disagree with the op on this one.

i find the subtle sarcasm of ice age 1/2 brilliant, and the references to other films in shrek 1/2 equally appealing...

toy story 1/2 was excellant as well and the only one i didnt like was 'a sharks tale'. everyone loved that but i couldnt be doing with it.... finding nemo was way better.

and recently... happy feet werent bad if only for the little dudey penguins - shame about the crap ending to it.

Not bothered really. Quite like the look of some of the stuff thats due this year. Liked Toy Story and most of the stuff since. Love the Christmas Penguins on the Madagascar DVD!

It must be really deep dislike, because Mayers as shrek doesn't sound anything like himself.

I think there is overkill of cheap cgi movies. There was really nasty looking one this year with bulls walking around farm on two legs with milking udders on their underbellys. Completele bottom of the B movie pit. Looks like CGI rendering got too cheap for its own good.

I don't think some of the better efforts (Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc) would have worked with traditional animation, so CGI is firmly here to stay. And I think you'll find that regardless of the media, the story is absolutely vital: poor storyline = poor film.

Just look at the large majority of last year's releases for evidence of that.

And if you want true animation, does it have to be Disney? You should try some of the Studio Ghibli output - Spirited Away being the easiest to recommend.
