Hi All

I have £225 to LAVISH on my current system (been running fine for about a year) - at first I was just going to upgrade bits of my w/c, but maybe I could put my money elsewhere?

What would YOU do, with £225 to blow, on this current set up?

Lian-Li PC V2000B PLUS Black Aluminium Full-Tower
Corsair HX 620W PSU
Asus P5B Deluxe WiFi 965 Socket 775 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB GDDR3
Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard
OCZ 2GB PC2-6400 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
Samsung SpinPoint T HD501LJ 500GB SATA-II
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II
Samsung SH-W183 18x18 DVD±RW
Swiftech H20-220 Apex Ultra+ Watercooling Kit
Viewsonic TFT 20" VX2025wm
Windows XP Pro

Well it's already a very decent system.

I'd get a decent sound card like an Asus Xonar, and a second hand amp and Hi-Fi speakers.

Hmm, there's really nothing you need that will make any real performance jump.

what about?

4GB memory
Q6600
Vista Home Premium 64 EDU

I knew I'd forget to mention part of the current spec - just edited to include Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard

Good ideas so far though..... particularly interested in going down the Vista road, maybe...

If it were me i'd sell the 640mb GTS, XTC DDR2 and viewsonic. Probably double your money with that lot sold.

With the kitty at £450ish i'd get an OCUK 24" screen @ £234.99, BFG 8800GTS 512mb (on this week only @ £164.49) and a 4gb set of DDR2 (OCZ are on a this week only @ £49.34).

I'd buy 18 cans of Carlsberg for £9.99,Mini Beer Fridge for £30.

Then a Pyramat Sound Rocker Gaming chair for £90.

Then a OCZ Neural Impulse Actuator for £100.

Result?

You can sit in a car seat with dolby speakers either side of your head, smashed out of your face, control games using only the power of your mind.

I...i really couldn't think what could improve that in anyway besides, erm, would involve a girl of some kind but can't see it not getting in the way, nope can't be improved. Best £225..ever.

You can pick up Home Premium OEM for anything between £55-£58 now as the Gates Possie have knocked a considerable amount off Vista now.

Just like you have to prove your System builder status when you buy OEM?

Ha, think it's a EULA thing, not a proof thing.

Eh...Vista? That's probably the worst idea yet. Who wants £300 of M$ bloatware?

A bigger screen, better graphics card and more RAM will improve your computing experience much more than downgrading your OS IMO.
