Hey guys, was trying to download a trial of 3Ds Max but I didn't want to use the Akamai downloader from the official site so I looked for a mirror. I ended up downloading from Softpedia I think it's called and Zone Alarm detected it as being a Virus. Anyway, since then I've used DBAN - Autonuke. I'm just wondering what are the chances of my computer still being infected, I had always thought that a low level format would remove any virus but I've read that it's possible for them to remain in the RAM if you don't unplug your computer from the wall.

Thanks.

It's theoretically possible, but unlikely. Viruses rely on the operating system and security has been going up over the years, so a virsus that survives even a fast format don't seem very common, if there are any around at all.

no , it is all good

If you used dban then there is nothing left on the disc at all

Since you had to reboot the PC to run dban , whatever was in memory is also gone

relax dude :)

Zone Alarm is a virus itself..

Slows down your PC, creates blue screens, interferes with other programs and has popups about non-issues on your PC. Remove it

I was under the impression that Softpedia were legit, sure I came across them before. Here is the link, appreciate your help.

The only real link is an external one which leads to http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/download/item?id=16324382&siteID=123112&nd=1

Did you click one of the fake download links/ads?
