Currently I am using a X-Fi Xtreme Gamer and have that hooked up to a Cambridge Audio Azur 340a amp, running a pair of TDL floorstanders. As a 'spare' set of speakers, i also have a Creative Inspire T7900 7.1 set-up.

Am contemplating getting the Asus Xonar D2X 7.1, but was wondering, if i stay with my current amp/speaker set up (mostly listen to music, with a bit of Eve-Online happening at the same time), would it be beneficial in listening quality, or would it be best to stick with what i have got.

Was thinking of seting up the 7.1 rig on an external switchable o/p so that i can switch between the two also.

Cheers

The XtremeGamer's not such a bad card. I noticed an improvement in sound quality going from an XtremeMusic to a Xonar D2. Was reminded how good it is last night when I started listening to music with my Goldring NS1000s and was still there a couple of hours later, long after I should have been in bed.

Game compatibility and frequency of driver updates were better with the X-Fi though.
