Hello Guys,

I recently upgraded my set up, and I am finding the size of the P180 very limiting. When I purchased it in 2006 it was great and roomy, but now it is barely accommodating my PSU and I have had to move my HDD bay to get the 7950 to fit. So I was wondering what case you guys would recommend? I would ideally something that is equally sound proof and as sturdy.

Budget is around £150 so any of your ideas would be much appreciated :D

I went from the P182 to the CM Stormtrooper. Its not as "sound proof" (i.e. the side panels aren't insulated) as the Antec was, but the stock CM case fans are much quieter than the stock Antec ones in the P182 so it's actually quieter all round, plus it comes with a built in fan controller which can make it near enough silent

For that kind of money you could go all the way up to something like a hybrid full tower (ie: bigger than a fridge). It really depends what you want though.

What is your maximum size, what do you want aesthetically, do you want something that's specifically quiet etc?

As previously mentioned, if your looking for a familiar case that will give you more options then the P280 would be a good option for you. Or if you want a change I have a bit of a thing for the Fractal Design Define R3, pre-fitted sound dampening, up to 13" graphics cards, USB 3.0 and a slick front door that hides optical drives ect. However this only comes in at £80. Bare in mind that if you feel like doing it yourself, OCUK does sell noise dampening kits for cases.

So.. I wasn't going upgrade my case.. I justed shoved my SSDs in the bottom and got on with it.

Now, I have just ordered a secondary card to go crossfire. Since they are notoriously hot, what case would you suggest I get? Ideally I'd like to keep it under £100.00 I want enough airflow to allow for the cards not to overheat.

Cheers

I am leaning towards to 550D but worried about the crossfire heat.

Is a full tower a better option for heat managment. The second option after the 550D is the NZXT 810, but I hear its quite a flimsy case.

I have gone of the Corsair 500R, got a couple of extra 120mm fans too.

This seemed like the best option for me as the corssfire is going to build up a fair amount of heat. I don't mind sacrificing some quietness. I also saw the case can handle 3 x cards in crossfire. Hoping i've made the right choice.

Cheers for the help guys.

The 500R isn't that noisy on low. You can hear it when you ramp up the fans, but I didn't find it that much beneficial when I had my CF 6950's. I just didn't like dealing with the dust fisters (or lack thereof on the side fan).
