change from rar file

I changed the name of a file to blah.rar and now I cant change the file type back to txt, as it stays as a rar file.

anyone know how to change the file type in windows 7?

thanks for that, even when I change the file associations the file remains as a rar file - i dont want it to be a rar file. I dont want to change what opens it I want to change its *.???

got it sorted, did it via the CMD prompt - thanks for the ideas.
