Change from Vista to XP

I'm in the market for a laptop but they all seem to have Vista pre-loaded and I have software that is not Vista compatible - primarily WordPerfet Office 11.

I happen to have a retail version of XP. Would I be OK installing it to replace the pre-installed Vista?
Or would it be easy to create a dual-boot environment until I'm ready to switch to Vista, and if so what about display drivers and so on?

I also want to set up an 'ad-hoc' network with my current XP desktop machine

I'd really appreciate any help / ideas.
Thank you.

I personaly would fire in the xp disk and reset pc so when it comes back on it will ask you to press any key to run disk.

load it up you know where it comes up where you can add it to a current partition delete the partition and that jazz, delete the vista partition only issue is be 100% possative you want to get wrid of vista as you no longer get boot disks they are already on as a partition. once this is done it will run as per normal

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure I'd want to eliminate Vista completely. I assumed most/all machines come with some sort of recovery which I could use 'at a later date'.
Actually, my problems might be solved if Vista will run stuff OK in XP mode. I just discovered that existed a little while ago.

im not 100% sure if you can put xp on with out deleting vista but i would fully expect the machine to get confused as to what its ment to be booting up. hence why i recomended deleting it. a few people i know have contacted the supplyer of thier machine and advised they had deleted the partition and could they get the cd im not sure if they will do it tho

If you have a recovery disc rather then an actual Vista disc, a dual boot senario will most likely be out of the window.
