Change gfx card and now Steam won't launch

Now it's saying Steam directory needs to be empty before reinstall.. WTF never had that before.. There is no way I am dumping 40GBs worth of game data.. I am NOT re downloading it
 
they are normally useless in my experience, but might have handy faq's or contacts etc

Had a look round and nothing. Going to trash the user profile and failing that re-install Windows 7, but instead of the Enterprise trial use one of my Pro copies.

Just a bit hacked off that I change the gfx card and this happens. Everything else is working fine.

Re-installed Steam and no difference. Crap
 
you delete clientregistry.blob?

or whatever its full name is

once you have clicked to start it, and it doesn't appear, if you Cntrl/Alt/Del do you see steam.exe in process tab?
 
Move the steamapps folder somewhere. Uninstall Steam. Reinstall Steam. Close Steam. Move folder back. Load up Steam.
