Change multiple remote RDP connections

We have a lot of thin clients on our estate who have a short cut to a TS. The file is in the root of C and is presented to the user on their desktop.

Up until now we have not allowed local disk drives to be shown on the TS session, however there is now a requirement for that.

However in our testing we have found UNCing onto the remote machine changing the RDP file and saving it, then testing it did not work, as it appears you need to edit the file while remotely connected to the thin client eg VNC/RDP.

Is there anyway we can change the RDP file on all of the devices remotely without having to log onto them, and also add in drive letters that do not exist until a usb stick is plugged in?

I have ticked the box for and future drives I plug in but doesn't seem to do anything.

Any help is appreciated

Thanks

Kimbie

Was the client running an RDP session when you copied the file over? The file wouldn't be locked but wonder if it would save it's own settings when closing the existing connection?

Must admit i've never tried editing an RDP file over UNC and can't see it being an issue but from a troubleshooting point of view i would get one of the clients configured correctly then copy the rdp file from it to another client after ensuring there were no active RDP sessions which you could do using a commandline and either tasklist or pslist if you wanted to script the rollout.

No it was not in use, however unless the drive letter is showing in Windows then it will not show up in RDP as an drive letter to make available.
