Hi all,

I'm a student and at the moment I work part time in a shop in Belfast, it's 40ish miles away from my home requiring a silly commute as I can't use the motorway and takes an hour and a half on average to get to. I get on well with the staff there and it's a relaxed, sometimes almost lazy working environment, but everyone knows what to do and things get done with the least fuss. Having said that it's boring and sometimes I just don't want to spend all day travelling to a 2pm shift, working for 8 hours and then either coming home or staying at Blackvault's house. I also only now work fridays and saturdays as the week day shifts swop at 2 or 3pm and I can't work monday to thursday as I'm in a crossover with uni. I took sundays off so I can play american football and do work. The main plus side is that it's a good working environment, I'm considered to be able to do the role of a supervisor - and only haven't got it due to my inflexibility - and I work hard when I'm there, or at least as hard as you do in a part-time student job. I feel like I want a bit of a change, but at the same time having a regular income that covers my transport during the week is nice.

Now this is where I come into a quandry, McDonald's in the town near me, about 6 miles away are recruiting part-time posts, and there are 4 of them, and I think I stand a good chance of getting a job there if I was to be interviewed. I reckon that I could do more shifts, and perhaps shorter ones, as it wouldn't mean that to get to a 7am shift I would have to be up at 4.30am like I pretty much do now. I'm not sure what the pay difference would be, I'm on 5.85 an hour and I don't know what McD's pay. I also don't know what the dynamics there are like, it's one of the main reasons that I've worked where I do for so long, but I'd hate to go to a more convenient workplace if it were going to be like hell.

Considering these points, does anyone have any advice or opinions of what they would do in this situation? I know it's McDonalds but I already work in a Centra (read Spar pretty much) so it's not like it would be any worse really.

Thanks.

I would choose McDonalds, that commute is just silly (especially for a part time job),

I dont think there would be much of a pay decrease (if any at all) and McDonalds has a great community about itself if you get on with every one in store.
