Change Res in Age of Empires (1)

Anyone know how to change the Resolution in this game to a custom res? In game settings only show 1024x768 max.

Ive been looking for the last patch they released for it also,But all the links are long gone. :(

This is why i hate PC gaming sometimes,Too much faffing around to get one game to work. :mad:

Yes it may be a faff but at least you have the option of running old games on a PC, it has the biggest back catalogue of any platform.

Finding a working link for the patch took me only a couple of minutes on Google:

-Try the link on developer site
-Doesn't work so copy the filename from the broken link
-Google that instead
-Try a couple of links, this one works: http://www.ausgamers.com/files/download/html/2146

As for changing the resolution try to hunt down the config files and see if there is anything in there you can manually edit.
 
Config files for resolution are in your Documents folder somewhere. I don't think the game supports over 800x600 though. The best you can do is just make sure that it stretches that to your full screen size. tbh I play games live Colonisation on really low res quite a lot, you get used to it. The sorest part is going back to the desktop and having to get used to tiny pixels again :D
 
I don't think it's possible. Normally I use WSGF's archive to find out if a game can support higher resolutions but even there it simply says it's not possible.

Looks like what's in the game menu is what you get.
 
I highly doubt this will work. I recall trying to get AoE1 to run at a res of 1600x1200 a year or two back and remember reading that the most you could get to with a tweak was 1280x1024.
