Change size that a window opens as

The only gripe I have with my 20" WS monitor is that everything opens uneccessarily at full screen. So what i'm looking for is a way to force new windows to open at a predefined resolution / size.

I know AIS toolbar for IE can resize the window to a set resolution but is there anyway to force this for all windows (explorer etc)?

Most windows will re-open at the size you closed them at. Have you tried this?
