Change The Owners Name in XP

I was away and some fool installed a laptop to the wrong name. I have changed the name of the account but now, whenever the login prompt appears it is set to that name no matter how many times I input the new name and log on and off again.

Is there an easy way to change all this or is it easier just to reinstall??

start, run,

control userpasswords2

that will allow you to rename the account. to change the owner (that appears in system properties) open regedit, browse to

HKLM\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion

Fantastic, exactly what I was after. I think I can stand the folders being in the wrong name as life is sometimes distinctly too short

You can change the folder name as well, but you need to log in with another admin account, delete (or rename) the folder and then log back in with your account.

Unless it's XP Home, in which case - you'll probably have to be in safe mode.

Almost all personal settings will be lost, though.
