Currently got a computer consisting of -

Amd Opteron 146 @3ghz
2gb DDR
80gb HDD
2x250gb HDD
7800GT OC
Asus Xonar D2X
4 DVD-RW's

Want to go to a shuttle though as i only need 1 drive and 1 hard drive as am looking at gettin a big external drive.

So when i upgrade my system i'm looking at a shuttle with the ability to take 8gb ram, quadcore cpu etc...

hi Aruffell, what sort of setup are you looking for? Intel (775) or Amd (am2). also what's your price range?

Intel, don't want to spend a massive amount.

Would like to use my current graphic for now which is PCI-E and my current sound card and one of my hard drives.

So just need the barebones system, cpu, ram to be honest.

I have a couple of Shuttles, they are knocking on in years now and still going strong.

I'm not up with the latest Shuttles but are you looking for the tiny Shuttles or the slightly larger P2's. The P2's have better expansion capability, the SP35P2 sounds OK on paper, the smaller SG31G2 sounds nice, takes upto 4GB of RAM but in just 2 slots.

You'll be very likely restricted to a single width GFX card when you upgrade unless you bin the soundcard.

Just bought the sound card so want to keep that and all decent gfx cards now are double so is it possible and is there a shuttle out there to take dual core, possibly quad core?

EDIT:

Has to have -

Quad core capabilities
Upto 8gb RAM
Room for my Asus Xonar D2X
Room for a big gfx card

That's bout it to be honest.

If you go for a Shuttle, you're not going to get both the D2X and a big graphics card in there. It only has room for 2 expansion slots on the backplate, so it's either a big card, or a smaller card and the D2X.

A SFF system would have room for a dual slot card and the sound card as well. But that means building it all yourself.

What kind of spec are you looking at? You should be able to keep the HDDs, a couple of optical drives, but the rest won't make the transition I don't think.

Been researching and looking at either the -

Lian Li PC-V350

or

SG01-F

What motherboard would be the best for me?
Has to accept DDR3
