Hello,

I went from stock "G" router which was provided by tiscali and netgear "G" PCI adapter to "N" BELKIN ROUTER AND "N" NETGEAR USB ADAPTER!

Set up router (BT) yesterday, but haven't seen any improvements: signal strength I'd say same/ same 54mbps (max108mbps - but drops to 54mbps)/ same online gaming experience/etc.

Is it typical or you would suggest me something?

Thank You!

The problem is that your internet is going to be anywhere form 1 to 20 Mbits, a 54Mbps connection can therefore easily handle your full internet rate, so going to a 108Mbps N connection won't offer any advantage.

Where 'N' might help is slightly better latency (pings), but in reality, your ISP is normally the limiting factor with latency.

Obviously N also helps when moving files around your network in your home.

What issues do you specifically have that prompted the 'N' wireless connection?

That would be my question too. If your internet connection speed is less than about 20Mbps, then wireless G is perfectly capable of handling the traffic, so you won't see higher speeds (unless you had weak signal before).

For online gaming, what counts is the latency/ping. Any latency improvement from switching to N would be very small, as the latency of your wireless connection should be less than 1ms anyway. Again, the only time N could make a difference would be if your G signal was bad and you were seeing packet loss.

Could be wrong here, but I seem to recall that if you've got any other networking devices that are only 54g (Printer? Mobile Phone?) The network won't actually run in n mode.

And as has already been said, It's not going to improve your internet traffic performance much.

Hi.

Unless your LAN bandwidth is bottlenecking your internet bandwidth; increasing the bandwidth of your LAN will have zero affect on your internet connection bandwidth or latency.

There may be a minuscule difference due to more efficient design or QOS or something of the router.

Upgrading to N won't really effect your external performance, more LAN side like transferring files to a Network share.

Also, if you have a G card in another device, it'll use G, not N.

oh, I see now...

now I got other problem with router:

each 3-6 hours t looses internet connection...it says connected but with LIMITED ACCESS...I try to resolve problem with windows but it can't help and only way to get connection is to RESTART or turn router off/on ...

Can someone help?

Thank you
