Was paying a fortune to BT (29.99) but at least the speed was good ...6-7 mbs.
BT persuaded me to stay with them rather move to Sky and offerred me Option 3 for £21/month with the home hub. Like a fool I accepted and the 2nd feb was the last time I saw 6.2 mbs speed. Every test so far at all times of the day/night and on 3 different computers has consistantly shown about 3.2mbs. I've put my old Netgear router back on and Bt's router is'nt the problem.
My question is, could I claim breach of contract and pull out of the deal on the basis that they never told me that my speed would be halved ?

The shifted us from our old contract we've had with them since '02 for ADSL (we originally got 512k which was then shunted up to 2mb when needed).

Anyway, when they released the MAX products, we decided to go for the 8mb one, and we then got full 8mb. Anyway, after they shifted us products without asking us, we now get the worst quality connections, sync's at about 4mb max with plenty of errors, and after trying so much to work out what was wrong, we're at a loss.

Doubt it as its not a guanteed line speed on max is it.

is BT Option 3 just a calling plan ?

if so i assume you're still on BT Max, so i dont see how the differences in your billing can mean you sync at different speeds ?

I have the same problem, was at 2mb and decided to go for the up to 8mb line. Was all fine for the first week or so and then the speed dropped from 8mb to less then 1mb.

Phoned up and got some (indian over seas?) guy who had no idea what was going on

However, today I sorted out a cilents BUISNESS internet line as it was becoming very slow like my own. I phoned up and as his line was a buisness one, i talked to someone who sounded english and knew what he was on about.

He explains that in simple terms the engineers fire different speeds down the line to see which is most stable. The highest stable speed will be locked and thats what your get.

He recommened phoning back up after 10 days if the new speed was slower then the previous. ( the cilent had just upgraded )

That's the 10 day profile training period, it's part of every max package. If you loose sync regularly your line will drop your profile to a lower speed untill the line can sustain a connection. It's the same for all max based products.
