Not that I'm massively bothered, but so far I've had the GDPR email from you three times.

I've just read the below article which I thought was fairly interesting, as far as I understand it if you already have consent to send somebody marketing emails then you don't need to ask for it again, and if you don't currently have consent then you shouldn't be contacting them to ask for it.

I think you're correct, I think where most are struggling is in them having proof that you gave consent so the 'easy' thing to do is ask for your consent again.

Guys, as someone who unfortunately has to deal with data protection law at work, they are simply covering themselves so don't get your knickers in a twist. OCUK are doing the right thing by seeking consent a second time even if it's probably not 100% required depending on record keeping in the past.

The big question will be whether you keep getting marketing e-mails if you don't sign up to the new list ;) but I'm sure that won't happen!

Once thing I've certainly noticed with this GDPR nonsense is how many companies actually have my email address. Companies I'd forgotten about over a decade ago are all suddenly going "hey, remember us?".

I should really think twice about spreading my personal rubbish all over the internet.

Yeah but the way I'm reading that it sounds like if that's the case then they shouldn't contact me anyway. Not really bothered, just thought it was interesting.

Just to be clear, I'm certainly not getting my knickers in a twist. :)

As I say above I just thought it was interesting when I read that article, which was about 5 minutes before seeing this post. I did mention that I'd had the email three times to try to be helpful, as although it doesn't bother me some people do get annoyed about such things, so just wanted to give a heads up in case there was a problem causing these to be sent multiple times.

....or fizzy Cola bottles from the little news stand at the bottom of Tower42 in London, if it's still there and he still sells them.

Make your **** sting they are that sharp

EPIC

(We gone off thread a bit here haven't we?)

Again I think you're probably right but from the companies point of view is it the lesser of two evils and they 'get away with it' until Friday when GDPR kicks in?

Do you know how many GDPR emails I have received in the last 2 months? lol

I'm not so sure that asking again is required... I mean who's going to know you didn't say yes in the first place about receiving the marketing emails unless you argue that you didn't then maybe someone else signed you up.... lol
