Changing Apple ID ?

Hello,

Since updating to iOS 5 I have moved over to iCloud for my e-mail client from Gmail.

Managed to move all my accounts over to the @me.com address.

The only one i cant seem to sort is with Apple lol

My Apple ID for itunes and icloud login is still showing as the @googlemail.com

How can i remove that gmail address and replace with my new @me.com address ??

Sign in with your me.com account?

As far as I know you can't currently change your ID. If you start purchasing with your new account then the apps will only be available for that account. You will then need to sign in to your old account for any updates on the app store to get them - can become a bit of a pain as I had this exact problem until I bit the bullet and just redownloaded the apps etc I wanted on my new account.

I believe Apple are currently working on a way to merge accounts together though

Thanks for the advice/info.

I have been able to log in to the managed my Apple ID.

Apple ID and Primary Email Address is set to the gmail address.

I have been able to add an Alternate Email Addresses which is the @me.com one.

If i try to edit the primary address i get this error,

You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID

It allows me the sign in with the @me.com address.

Would be nice to total remove anything to do with gmail though.

Apple are working on a solution apparently.

It seems a pain, but it's a none issue really as you never need to re-enter your email address for app store/iTunes purchases anyway.

I'm in the same position BTW, @hotmail.com account for purchases and @me.com for iCloud services.

I'm not sure if this is still possible, or if it was down to the type of account I've had/have, but my apple I'd is just an username, not a email address so there's no @blah.blah needed at the end to log in. Might be worth a try for some.

If i try just the user name for login to iCloud i just this error message,

Apple ID Update Required

You Must change your Apple ID login to an e-mail address

So the user name has to have the @me.com or @googlemail.com part to login.

Will wait on Apple for a fix/solution

Hmm I ALWAYS have to enter my mail address and password to update ALL of my apps.

Check settings > store > apple Id. I'm guessing yours isn't set? I NEVER need to re-enter my user Id on any of my devices. I can see why it would be annoying if you're doing this each time lol.

as you can see my apple id is a hell a lot shorter than my email address..
(settings from itunes)

so I never have to bother entering my email address.. but it may be down to my account type rather than anything else.
