I have a brand new battery kicking around that came off and old fiesta, it has the square type looking terminals with a hole through each termial. Is it possible to get some kind of adapter or replace the terminals to the the pole type terminals found on most modern day cars?

You'll have to replace them, just get new leads. Warning though, I find you can't get the current out the battery for cranking as well as you can with the round terminals, probably won't be an issue on a standard car but my high compression engine won't turn over properly with the square ones and they get really hot :(

The battery will be going on a 1.3 Fiesta, so the current shouldn't be an issue, how much should I expect to pay for a new set of leads ? is it pretty simple chaning them over ?

you'll probably pay almost as much as just getting a new battery.
i wouldn't bother. just keep the battery as a spare and use it with jump leads if your car has a flat battery one morning.

Or do what many bodgers do....just jam the round battery clamps onto the square lugs. Seen this done many times, though not really a good idea.

New leads are only about a fiver?

are they good quality or cheapo halfords ones.
if you have thin poor quality leads you'll regret it one winter's morning. the thicker the leads the less voltage drop there is across them so more juice gets to your starter motor in adverse conditions.
