Changing brake disc/pads - how difficult?

Information overload!!

Thanks for the detailed reply Gibbo, I have decided to just change the pads (and fluid!) for now. It would be nice to get larger discs/calipers at a later date, as 240mm is tiny.. 260-280 would be nice :)

I will post back when decided what to go for and of course will post pictures of the work :)

thanks again

Hi there

You will be shocked the difference some decent pads and fluid can make. :)

As seen here for the brake fluid go for the Castrol SRF as it seems the best or if thats too expensive then get the Motul RBF600. Either way both are better than the stock stuff.

duke,

my 2002 puma has 260 mm discs iirc.. and tbh they are still pretty appalling, puma's aren't known for good brakes (ask eidolon !)

afaik a common mod is to put 300mm discs on with different calipers (you have after market 17's don't you? should fit) Believe these are off a Mondeo, so check to see if its cheaper to get the bits yourself. Puma build do the conversion if you don't want to get your hands dirty.

You should change the brake fluid at least every 2 years and be sure to lube the the pins that the calipers float on unless you have opposed pistons then you will not have any

Diffusion occurs when over time moisture enters through rubber brake hoses. The use of hoses made from EPDM materials (Ethlene-Propylene-Diene-Materials) will reduce the amount of diffusion OR use steel braided brake hose with a non-rubber sleeve (usually Teflon) to greatly reduce the diffusion process.

Seems that braided hoses help reduce water ingress into the fluid too. Bonus

where do you get your Castrol SRF from, and how much does it cost?

If you want the absolute best then buy it, probably best searching online to see anywhere that offers it.

Otherwise get the Castrol super response stuff or the Motul RBF600 as those cost a lot less. 1l of Motul RBF600 is about £10 from most stores.

Yeah I heard the same thing - I think they are from the V6 Mondeo.
