Ok, got a bit of cash together, first time since xmas.

Although i desperatly need a new monitor, Keyboard & Mouse, i think they'll have to wait until my birthday in May.

In the meantime, i'm gonna fork out £60-70 on some extra cooling, but mainly to stop this infernal racket that has left my deaf in one ear!

The parts:

FG-000-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
£14.50 £14.50
SY-007-ZA Zalman ZM-NB47J Northbridge Cooler (SY-007-ZA)
£4.95 £4.95
HS-013-ZA Zalman VF700-CU Quiet Copper VGA Cooler (HS-013-ZA)
£19.95 £19.95
FG-024-AK Akasa AK-183-L2B Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin (FG-024-AK)
£5.95 £5.95
Subtotal £45.35
VAT £7.94
Total £53.29

+ Delivery.

I really wanted the Accellero in of the VF700, but its taking too long to appear.

So i was just wondering since i'm upgrading from stock is there any tips for a CPU fan removal and replacement?

I'm mainly concerned about thermal paste.

On this fan it had a pad, but when it didn't sit right i had to move it, and noticed the pad had basically turned into paste, and stuck to the CPU.

Now will i need to clean this off, if so what's the best way?

And will the Artic pro 64 come with a pad, or will i need paste to apply as well?

Also, what kind of dose of paste do you put on, just a blob in the middle, and spread, or just leave the blob and fit the fan?

Cheers for any comment.

Steven.

Right, just wipe it off gently... then put the heatsink on how you would normally do.. :D Its an easy to install heatsink... YEH NO NEED FOR PASTE WHICH IS GOOD :D

Cheers, so no need for paste.

What about cleaning the off the old pad from the CPU, do i need to to improve contact and what should i use?

Wipe off the old thermal compound with alcohol (100% alcohol). I used nail polish remover.

I'm not sure on what else you could use to get it off but thats two things. Simply wiping witha dry cloth wont get all of the old compound off and it'll lead to a bad heat transfer.

Just make sure you dont get any on the pins or anywhere in your computer and you should be fine :)

The NB replacement should be equally as fun, bending the fins around my GFX card.
