Hey guys.

I am switching from a 7800GT to a X1900XTX. I know about unistalling the drivers, using driver cleaner, then installing the new card. But I've heard that when switching from one brand of graphics card to another it can cause problems. Some people have even said that it is wise to perform a complete reinstallation of Windows. That however seems a bit extreme to me, though I will do it if necessary. Can anybody offer me some guidance please?

Removing the drivers and running driver cleaner is enough. I have never had any problems doing this.

I have recently swapped back to nvidia and thats all I did. Everything works fine.

I will be reinstalling windows however as I want to.

Oh and you also need to do this:

Go to the ATi Driver download site, and download the display driver and WDM seperately under the low speed internet connection table.

Once you have those installed, install ATi Tray Tools to controll the driver - it really is a great piece of software especially for creating game profiles for games which have no built in aniostropic / antialiasing options.

The only thing is Ray Adams the maker of ATi Tray Tools has not yet worked out how to program to clock the R520 cores and above, so overclocking, temp monitoring or fan speed controll will not be available in the program like it would for X850 cards and before.

Duel....I too just upgraded from a 7800GT to a X1900XT-X 512 last week....and yes you will be able to play everything absolutely maxed out without any lowdowsn like you had with the 7800GT. One thing which is particularly nice....CSS playing at evrything maxed out...6xAA...16xAF. Makes it worth the £100 it cost me to upgrade!

Thanks Mekrel...I am going to try ATI Tools...becasue since going from NV to ATI for first time in 3 years....this CCC is really hacking me off. There is just need for it. What happend to the old style control panel???????

I just got rid of ATI Tray Tools on the grounds that it crashes everytime i load a game profile.....doesnt matter anyway,... just got a new card.... (NV).

Hmm well I had aload of game profiles her and never had any problems, then again my profiles may not be as complex as yours due to not having overclocking support where a profile can load a certain clock for a game and revert back to stock when the application is terminated.

ran at stock......... think it might be the complex configurations... some game would use adaptive aa some nothing some this some that, dont think the software could cope. CCC works absolutely fine.

Hi....

I decided to try ATI Tray Tools...firstly uninstalling the catalyst control panel. When it loads I am getting an error message ' unable to detect bios...contact hanrdware manufactrer' or something like that. Any ideas?
This is for a connect 3d X1900 XT-X card.

Thanks

Cool...got that working now.

I have loaded Rivatuner to enable overclocking without the CCC...forgive my stupidness...but where exactly is the overclocking options in Rivatuner....been a couple of years since I used it.

Cheers
