Next week I hope to get a new Pixel 7a to replace my awful Samsung S20. On the Samsung I kept all my passwords in Samsung Notes, is there an equivalent on Google phones that I can transfer that data to and be read on the Google phone?

There's Keep Notes, which is google's notes app.
Thanks, it's the file format compatibility that I'll have to address.
Edit: found a way, install Google Keep on the phone and copy each note one by one from Notes to Keep, very laborious but at least I can weed out Notes that I don't need.

Heads up, I wouldn't recommend using a notes app to store passwords. I strongly suggest using a password manager app instead, for example Bitwarden. Would also allow it to paste your username and password to apps/sites directly instead of needing to look it up first.

Yeah use a password manager.

Still hang onto Keep Notes though as you can use it for shopping lists, to-do tasks, general notes and picture clippings, and the beauty of it is that you can use it on a desktop browser too. So if you make changes to your shopping list on desktop at home, your phone will see the changes while you're out and about. Being Google, Keep has the same login as Gmail, Maps, Calendar, G Drive etc.

I tried Bitwarden but it's a pain each time I try to logon. It either rejects my password/username or it fails my captcha. Takes up to 10 minutes to logon so I think I'll look for an alternative.

There shouldn't be a captcha for the app, surely? Once logged in you can set it to unlock on fingerprint, which makes life very easy and MUCH safer than storing passwords in a notes app.

It's accessing my account in a browser that's been the problem, I'll try the app, thanks.

That doesn't sound right? Has anyone else ever seen a captcha in the Bitwarden app? Maybe it takes you out the first time to authenticate you? Go into settings and setup biometric login. Check what it does when you reboot etc so you don't have to keep putting passwords in etc.

I'm using 1password on my phone/PC/tablet with no issue, you have to manually log in once every 2 weeks on the phone and rest of the time authenticate with biometrics or pin.

I've also never had a captcha for Bitwarden, but you may need to give it access to certain Android permissions to work properly and show the autofill prompt (on mine, if I'm on an app or even in a web browser, when I come to a username/password prompt, a little dropdown box shows up in one of the 2 boxes. I click it, login to Bitwarden, then the password usually shows up, or I can search my vault).

I occasionally get emails about multiple failed attempts to login from Romania/Russia/USA/China etc and that next time I try, I'll need to pass a captcha but I haven't actually seen one pop up.

Something sounds very wrong if it's constantly asking you for a captcha every time. I'm only using the browser extension and Android app, but they usually only ask me for a PIN/biometric. You're not fully logging out every time are you?

Nope, well at least I didn't think I was. Just opened the app and it told me my vault was locked. All I had to do was enter my master password and I was back in OK. I'll now do more research on how to use Bitwarden. Thanks for the replies.

That's normal, it should lock itself, default I believe is 5 minutes. The captcha thing definitely isn't however. You can change this in the app settings, there's "Unlock with Biometrics" and "Unlock with PIN code", as well as the vault timeout length and action (action should be set to lock, not log out).
