Changing gear linkage, anyone done it?

Hi all,

The gear change on my wife's Citroen Xsara Picasso is pretty fluffy these days, so I'm thinking of getting the internal linkage kit @55 quid and installing it.

My question is: has anyone done this before, will it be an easy thing to accomplish, or should I find a decent local indy to do it for me?

Cheers.

I was quoted an hours labour for the same job on my old 206 but I never had it done. The 206 had plastic linkages and was therefore shafted within about 0.1 mile of ownership. Are the replacement ones of a better material to the linkages already present? I suspect they may suffer the same issue.

I doubt they'd be any better, it being a Citroen part and all! The last one lasted from new to about 60,000 and still felt OK. It's no big deal now, apart from the fact that you can wobble the gear stick in fifth and it feels like neutral. If it was 55 quid and I could do it myself I'd go for it.

Damn those French cars!
