Changing google search results site summary?

How do I go about customizing what google shows as the summary for my website? I thought I could just add it in the meta tags, but having a quick read, it seems google ignores meta tags. Any ideas?

What people are talking about when saying google ignores meta-tags is stuff like keywords meta-tag. You can still use the description meta-tag to set the summary. Note though that if you've got a dmoz entry you need to specifically tell it not to use your dmoz summary. Also remember that it should be less than 160 characters and that in some instances Google wont use the meta-tag if it thinks you're keyword stuffing or the tag has nothing at all to do with what the person was searching for (yet the site still ranks highly for it).

Ah ok, cheers. Dumped a description meta tag in there. Should hopefully be picked up by the google spiders.
