Changing Hosting Providers

Hey folks,

I'm thinking of changing my hosting provider to TSOHost after all the good reviews from this forum.

I run a tiny freelance web development business and effectively need reseller hosting for the complete service I like to provide my clients.

Currently I'm paying £95.94 a year for "15GB Premium Cloud Webspace" and "100GB Quality IP Transfer per month" with unlimited databases / emails / domain as far as I'm aware.

The thing that's driving me the most is recent outages of all my websites due to server migration hickups, supposed DDOS attacks and costs.

Saying that, the support has been excellent when any issues have occurred (weekends and middle of the night) but they have been so constant of late I've had to get involved with uptime monitoring software just to keep track of it all. I'm using http://www.pingability.com/ for anyone that's interested. They have a free options if you just add a link to their website.

Anyway, the biggest problem I think I've got time and effort it will take to transfer the 4 websites I currently host. I know it's not a lot but this is by no means my full time job and can only really put aside an hour or 2 a week to pursue this.

I'm using the usual suspects of software on these websites (Wordpress, Magento, WHMCS) but am also really fond of http://www.softaculous.com/ (an alternative to Fantastico which looks like it doesn't support Magento or WHMCS) which they've got installed.

Has anyone experienced the service you get from TSOHost with regards to migration or anyone got any tips or pointers to things that may crop up?

Ultimately, is this going to be worth my while?

Ach, you know i'd like to think I could have thought of that myself but obviously I'm just a little slow :-)

Will do that now and see what they say.

Thanks for the suggestion as well Russinating but it seems to be a step in price for not a lot of gain...

Turns out I was looking at the wrong stuff...

My current hosting provider actually offers an outstanding price compared to TSOHost, even if uptime has been an issue of late.

I was looking at the normal hosting packages (http://www.tsohost.co.uk/hosting.php) rather than the reseller hosting (http://www.tsohost.co.uk/reseller-hosting.php)

What TSOHost are charging is £249 a year for what I'm getting for £95...

Like I said, this isn't my full time job and this would be more than doubling the, pretty much, single cost I have.

My current hosting providers have excellent service even if the uptime has taken a hit of late but they had been perfect until then.

Think I was a bit eager to jump the gun from the attractive price listed for the standard hosting.

On a positive note you guys were right. TSOHost's response were both quick and very helpful. I'll keep them in mind where maybe separate hosting could be needed!

blade007, don't think the irony of my posts is lost on me :-)

I used to work for a small web development company and I would continually petition the boss to change hosting providers due to bad customer service and frequent outages. He'd only every consider changing when **** had hit the fan and all hands were on deck just trying to fix the problems rather than find a new hosting provider.

However, as I've stated, the customer service I receive is actually really good. Live support online 24/7 and they reply to any email I've sent them in 30 minutes in the first instance and immediately with any follow up.

Also I know I've got daily backups and individual CPanel access for email / database / sub domain access is essential for two of my current clients.

However, your service appears very good for the price, in which case I'm sure you're happy to stay with them. It's rare to get that level of service for the price...

Too true, in my last job we'd have emails from clients when we did the daily backups complaining of slowdowns at three in the morning!

But my personal clients are far more easy going - I only get an email from them telling me the cheques in the post each year :-)

My uptime reports over the last week have been 100% according to the monitoring software, so looking to be back on track. They manage to keep this up for another year and I might even put their name on here as a recommendation :-)

Sorry, but fist posting linking to an unheard of hosting company with a dodgy formatted image and blurb on it's homepage that when you google brings up multiple other, dodgy looking, hosting providers... I call ********.

Not to mention WhoIS data that shows "Registrant type: Unknown" and it's address to be in "Pakistan".

You'd have done yourself better by not posting at all. If you're not a bot and actually read this reply - find a ditch and get in it. You're not welcome here.

EDIT:: Ahhh, banned - good stuff :-)
