Hello!

Bit of a noob question regarding hosting.

I've currently got a web address hosted with my ISP, I only use it so that I can send emails using the name (i.e [email protected]). I haven't got a site up yet. I'd like to change ISP to O2 but keep the web address and ability to use the email name thing.

How do I do it and what's the best/cheapest way to do it?

Many Thanks in advance.

Personally I'd transfer the domain to a new registrar (I use 123-reg.co.uk). That normally involves creating an account with a new registrar, ordering a domain transfer, then contacting the existing registrar (in this case your ISP) and asking them to change the IPS tag for your domain to that of the new registrar.

Once the transfer has gone through you can use the new registrar's domain control panel to forward all email for that domain to a different address, this could be something like a free gmail address, or an o2 email address if you have that set up by then. That'll allow you to receive all your email. How you then go about sending email as if it's from your domain depends on how you send email normally - probably just a matter of changing some settings in your email client.

None of that will cost a penny.
