Changing ISPs, Speed Question

My current contract has run out and I've decided to change ISPs to get an unlimited download package. I'm changing from Talktalk to Sky.

My current speed is about 2000kbps, but Sky is saying I can only get up to 0.5mbps. It will be the same phone line and the same local exchange. Have they got their information wrong, or is there some reason why my attainable speed would be cut by so much by switching ISPs?

What exchange are you connected to? It could be possible Sky doesn't have LLU enabled on it? If they do then you can expect to receive the same speed that you have with Talktalk.

Then what they're saying is only an estimation of what people around your distance from the exchange usually receive. Consider yourself lucky that your actual speed is 4 times faster :D.

as the man above said. Changed recently from BT to Sky and whilst my downloads are roughly the same, my upload has trebled. Also, Anytime+ is excellent, starting to get some stuff worth watching now...
