Changing Laptop Brightness... but keys broken!

Hey,

My friend wants to increase the brightness of his laptops TFT, but he has broken his FN key, so can't use the keyboard to do this! Is there any way to do this via software?

Laptop is a Clevo 5600D (rebranded under the Mesh name).

Only two things I can think of.

1. Connect and external keyboard, longshot.

2. Replace the broken keyboard, usually around £40-50 and about 1/2 to 1 hrs work.

3. Some kind of utility for adjusting power properties etc,. You can do this is software on an Acer.

Might help if we knew the make/model.

Buy a external "notebook" keyboard, those have the FN key. I'm in a similar situation, the laptop keyboard is dead so using a full size PS2 keyboard. I can't adjust it either.

You should be able to adjust backlight and contrast with FN L/R and Up/Down. Graphics driver should have brightness correction but of course this won't adjust backlight.
 
A little thought, if it's anything like my Toshiba (Awful thing, but still), then the key may be simply stuck. Find something flat & thin (I use a scapel blade), slip this right under the key & ping it up.
Happens with the keys on the bottom edge of the keyboard, which I presume is where this one is.

I've found a keyboard that has an FN key on it, but it's USB... will this still work?
