Changing laptop resolution?

I have a 17" HP laptop that allows a maximum resolution of 1366 x 768 which I hate - everything is too big and I was wondering if there was a way to force a custom resolution or is it a hardware limit?
 
As above, all you can do is lower the resolution which will just make it worse.

I have a laptop with a 1366x768 screen res and can't say I think its a great resolution either...

Unfortunately other than the normal options of making text smaller etc your only other option would be to change the actual screen itself, that's presuming of course that HP offer the laptop with a higher resolution one and you can source one to replace it etc...

Other than thats its sell it one and get another one I'm afraid...

what is hp laptop type? usually 17" minimum resolution is 1440x900 not 1366x768
