Dear all, I just received my upgraded components today :p (well happy) just got one question.

As I'm upgrading from my old Asus K8V Deluex (socket 754) to the new DFI LanParty UT4 (socket 939) is it possible to plug my harddisk in without to format the whole windows? (SATA drive it is) will it be stable? I've got hell lot of data need to back up again if I reinstall windows and never tried this method before, although I heard it is possible. so I thought i'd drop in and ask you all.

Many thanks for the help :)

basically when you plug it in it will either blue screen when it tries to boot or not (that is as far as stability issues will go)

You may have to, you may not - if it blue screens, shove in the xp cd, boot from it, press enter to install and then select the install and select repair. This installs all the xp files over the top so you don't lose any of your data or settings (you will have to get any service packs and hotfixes not on the cd)

A format may be best to keep it nice and tidy, but if you uninstall the old chipset drivers it should be ok

try chk dsk in recovery console if windows wont boot. i work in a computer shop any big hardware like that we just tell customers much better for them if they have a format.
