Changing MSN name?

I've been using Pidgin recently and noticed it's using quite an old screen name, it's not using the most recent one from the proper MSN client.

It's picking up one from a few months ago from the MSN server.

Any ideas how to change it properly?

i had the same problem a few weeks back

i cant remember exactly where the option is but its there some where not that that is much help :rolleyes:

i've noticed that, pidgin picking up the 'quote' from about 3 years ago!

Strange. Maybe it's because I haven't used my new MSN name for that long yet, although if you say Pidgin is picking up a name from 3 years ago then maybe that's not the case.

you know you can put a quote after your name, that's what it's picking up (i've removed my one in msn, and not set a new one for yonks)

Ah, with me it's picking up my actual screen name.

Sorted.

Changed my MSN name to something different, then back to the name I wanted through MSN.

I also put a name into Pidgin, logged out, logged back in, removed the name (so it receives one from the server) and it worked.

So not sure whether it was the change in Pidgin or the change in MSN, but it worked

did that mean all your contacts saw your old name whilst logged in via pidgin or just yourself?

All of them saw it.

I think it comes under set friendly name. I had the same problem a while back till I found it.

Yeah, that's to set it in Pidgin. Pidgin should be able to get a name straight from the MSN server so I can use the same name across different messengers, but it was picking up my old screen name for some reason

All sorted now though, I did set one through friendly name, then removed it again and it seemed to update on the MSN servers.
