Hi guys, just joined because I'm planning on upgrading my cards and thought people on the forums here might be able to help?

Basically, I just bought the asus 285 and I'll hopefully be installing it tonight, but I just wanted to make sure that I don't have to do more than completely uninstall the 8800 and its drivers? I read an article (that I can't find and is why I'm coming on here to ask) that mentioned going into the BIOS and doing stuff there. Is this necessary, and if so, what would I need to do?

For those interested, the machine is basically:

antec 900 case
asus P5e wolfdale mobo
E8400 3gig
4 gigs corsair dominator ram
BFG 8800GT (it has a slight overclock I think, but I haven't ever checked!)

I haven't gone near overclocking because until recently I simply didn't have the funds to replace parts that will inevitably go 'bang' if I touch anything fragile! ;)

Thanks for any help in advance!

Chris

All you need to do is remove the old drivers, install the new card, install new drivers. You could use a driver cleaning program, but I've not needed to yet.

What PSU have you got, that 285 is going to use more juice than the 8800GT.
(You probably want something in the region of a Corsair HX620 or better).

I don't see why you'd need to do anything in the BIOS, if you haven't changed any voltages or clocks in there yourself. You'll want to download Driver Cleaner Pro, delete the current drivers, then restart in safe mode and run Driver Cleaner to get rid of any odds and ends. Then stick the new card in and boot up, and install your new drivers...should all be happily up and running :)

Oh and welcome to the forums!

Thanks guys! I'm on a corsair 650 so I don't think I need to worry about that just yet... I hope anyway, I was planning on spending my money on other things, not a new PSU, although changing it might give me a real excuse to get in the case and get some proper spring cleaning done! :p
