I used to sync at 4300+ for years... Then Karoo (joys of living in Hull) eeked this down to ~3600 gradually, where it seemed to stay. However, I noticed my noise margin was down at 2dB, which would probably have explained my dropouts every now and then. Had a word with Karoo, as to generally why I could only see 3600ish when other people in my village could get 5000+, to which they were generally unsympathetic. They did, however, send out someone to have a look. His solution was to whack up my noise margin. Fine, however, I now sync at 2300 with a noise margin of 15dB - this seemed excessive.

I've got hold of a DG834GT, with the intention of using
Code:
adslctl configure --snr xx

I had hoped that this would reduce my SNR, therefore increase my speed, however, it's having no effect. Could they have somehow fixed the noise margin or speed? The DMT thingy (http://dmt.mhilfe.de/) reports my line as being capable of 4100!

EDIT: Just managed to nurdle the SNR down to 10.9, but the sync remains at 2304. Looks like they've fixed it or something?

Download the DG Team firmware for the DG834GT and install that into your router, there is an option in the "Advanced ADSL settings" called SNR percentage, you set it to a percentage of your original SNR.

I am on BE, my profile is set to 6dB so I set mine to 65%, which works my SNR down to about 4dB.... this seems to be the best for my connection, so you will need to try different values to get the best for your connection.

I dont know whether you will need to get your ISP to switch anything off, maybe someone here will know that.

Yeah, I figured that changing my SNR would have an instant impact, the only thing the TeamGT firmware adds is the ability to keep the setting after rebooting. I've just realised that it's always 2304, never more or less - looks like I'll have to endure the helpline...

Bah. There was some kind of limit on it. Which has now been removed and my line is doing strange things. Getting another engineer sent out...
