Changing my wireless adapter- will it increase my speed?

Just a quick query.

My adsl ISP comes in downstairs and connects into a
D-Link DSL-2640R Broadband wireless G ADSL2+ Router. This router then connects the downstairs pc via a wired connection.

My PC upstairs connects wirelessly using a Netgear WPN111 usb adapter which i think is 54Mbps. If i was to upgrade this adapter to a 300 Mbps, such as this ...http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-023-TP&groupid=46&catid=1600&subcat=

Would i see any increase in speed when downloading files from the internet?

Thanks

Downstairs pc (wired connection from router) Best of three
Dload= 1.300mb/sec. Upload 0.347mb/sec

My Pc upstairs (wireless connection) Best of three
Dload= around 1.027 mb/sec. Upload 0.300 mb/sec

Is it worthwhile me going for a faster wireless adapter then?

Thanks

Ok so if i understand it correctly

Its pointless upgrading my wireless adaptor from 54mbps untill i have an isp sending more than 5.4 meg.

Its pointless upgrading the network card downstairs from 100mbps untill i have an isp sending more than 10 meg.

If and when i get FO installed in the area and go over 10 meg speeds at that point it might be wise to upgrade router adapter and card?

Sorry for all the basic questions.
