I've just changed my hosting and so have changed the nameservers on my domain name, but it's been 3-4 days and still the nameservers haven't changed over.

When I've done this before it's been 24 hours max.
Any idea why it might not be changing?

thanks

contact your domain registrar make sure the that theres not an issue with their system that could be locking domain changes

Check out www.dnsstuff.com and run the DNS Lookup test on the right side of the page.. it should give you something like:
Code:
How I am searching:
Searching for riddlermarc.co.uk A record at a.root-servers.net [198.41.0.4]: Got referral to NS2.NIC.uk. (zone: uk.) [took 7 ms]
Searching for riddlermarc.co.uk A record at NS2.NIC.uk. [217.79.164.131]: Got referral to ns2.no-ip.com. (zone: riddlermarc.co.uk.) [took 77 ms]
Searching for riddlermarc.co.uk A record at ns2.no-ip.com. [204.16.252.6]: Reports riddlermarc.co.uk. [took 82 ms]

Answer:

You should be able to suss out if it's reaching the correct nameservers already :)

thanks it looks like there's a problem with this domain. All my others come up fine when I did the DNS lookup but this one was all strange.

I've sent a support e-mail to 123-reg who I registered the domain with. Will see what they come back with.

Do you want to define "strange"?
As this domain is safely under your control do you fancy letting us know what it is?
It will make diagnosing any potential issue a lot easier.

See the quote below for the reply I got when running the dns lookup.

Error: It looks like you've stuck me in a loop!.

Details:
I am programmed to stop after 20 DNS queries, since most DNS lookups can be finished
after about 3-5 queries. It sounds like you're stuck in a loop.

Unless really necessary I'd prefer not to tbh.

I appreciate the help, thank you.

Did u point the name server at its self? just a random throught? Or try setting the name server again, perhapse some thing went wrong the first time.

Not sure what you mean by pointing it at itself?

I had the option to enter up to 4 nameservers and entered ns.mainnameserver.com and ns2.mainnameserver.com

I've tried to set them twice, leaving about a 2 day gap between them and it's now been about 3 days since the last time I set them.

From what I can tell the nameservers have changed from what they were before (ns0.todhost.co.uk and ns1.todhost.co.uk)?

thanks for the reply

I'm going to be honest with you - I've never seen a response quite like that before :)
It does indeed appear to be in a loop...
Are the nameservers you are setting actually inside the name space of your domain or also known as "personalised name servers"

Example:

Say I own the domain mydomainname.com
Are the name servers you are trying to set
ns1.mydomainname.com
ns2.mydomainname.com

If so there is a slightly different method to setting the name servers - you have to go through an extra stage.

If not, with fast DNS changes these days (usually within 1-2hrs) I'd be tempted to change them back to what they were originally (or even use 123-reg's Name Servers).
Once you're getting successful lookup's on the domain again then try changing them as per your new hosts instructions.
If it still fails it could well be a Name Server issue with your new hosts.

thanks for the replies.

I eventually got a response from my hosting company today and they reset my account and it all looks to be ok now :)
