Changing Operating Systems XP To Windows 7?

I'm just ordering the parts for my new machine, i already have XP and XP Pro and thought of going to windows 7 in a few weeks......but to get this machine up and running i thought i would load xp.
Would it be an easy job to just replace XP with Windows 7 in a few weeks, or would i have to reload all the programmes back onto the system drive from scratch?

Going down to Overclockers to fetch the parts this week, spec is the same as suggested only going for Corsair memory, the guys at Overclockers said that would be a good match. I notice some of the Gigabyte Bundles use the same memory. Going to buy one of the Corsair 650W psu's on offer in case my Q Tec one blows everything up! Going to use my old case for the time being and add a couple of case fans, once i get it working i'll add some more memory and no doubt a quieter cooler from the stock one, unless the Zalman one in my P4 machine will fit.
Fingers crossed...its that first press of the power button that worries me!
