So I was having troubles with some of my games online, I am with Plusnet Pro, and they were telling me something about my connection not being prioritised in COD4. So anyway I get this response from the support and I have no idea what it means and was hoping you could take a look, here is the question.

"Unfortunately we can't define this game on port 1024 as this is often used by Remote Administration Tools on exploited PCs. I'd recommend using another port, we would recommend using any between 28800 and 29101 as these should all work fine."

The exploited PC thing sorta caught my eye, I mean is he saying I am cheating or something I dont get it? Just installed COD4 on PC and thought it was laggy so I got in touch with em and now I am confused. Any help?

He's suggesting port 1024 is commonly used by malware on infected PC's, nothing to do with cheating in an online game.

Oh ok I thought he meant that I was cheating or something XD. Well any idea how to change what port it uses then? When it comes to networking I am very lost to be honest.

Unless you're talking about running a server yourself, you can't (trivially) change the port. The server wouldn't be listening on that port.

Yeah I dont run servers or anything like that he just said that I should use a different port to connect to games so they can prioritize it but I am baffled at what he means :P.

Generally the client port is random... so you can't normally specify it... however the idtech3 engine that COD4 is based on does have provision for the net_qport cvar to attempt to use that as the client port but I have no idea if COD4 implements it.

There seems to be a lot of talking at cross purposes however... afaik COD4 doesn't use port 1024 for anything normally and traffic priorities aren't normally set by the ISP for specific applications for a specific customer and when they do they are set based on application/protocol usually not a specific port.
