Changing sink pop up waste

The upper part that the pop-up plug sits inside usually screws into the lower halve that contains the lever which moves the plug.

Should be a seal between the upper halve and the basin and another between the lever housing and the basin.

Changed my bath pop up recently ^^ the sink hole has a screw thread that clamps.

I had to cut the spokes to release it as the old screw was corroded in.

I managed to remove it, however there is a lot of silicone left on where the surfaces mate together, I've scraped away most of it but need to remove the residue, is the no no nonsense silicone remover from Screwfix the right thing to buy?

Yes that works very well.

Ok I'll grab some of that, should I grab a tub of plumbers mate to bed the waste into and to seal underneath?
Yes
Plumbers mate is way better than those cheap rubber seals that come supplied
I have found that those rubber seals leak about 7 out of 10 times

After removing the silicon, I used iso-alcohol to clean the surfaces. I then used Soudal Fix All (it has anti fungi and bonds as well as seals).

I wouldn’t trust the seals that come with the kit by themselves.

Ended up having to replace the trap as well because there wasn't as much thread on the new waste. I guess standards maybe changed in 20 years because the exact same one from the same manufacturer fits fine.
