I think because they can't be controlled via the mobo, that they're noisy. Mine are stuck at 1200 rpm and i want them down, particularly when the machine is idling.

Has anyone attempted this before, got any ideas on the size of the middle fan and how you get the metal grips off?

Advice appreciated, thank you

Ok so i just changed the front with an Apache Black and removed the middle one, cooling has take a hit but it's very quiet.

Going to order anothre fan i think the middle one is a 140mm then fit that in the middle...

On the asus bios P8Z68-V-PRO you can't seem to change them, it seems that because they're 3 pin (what i'm imagining) is that they stay fully powered. the 4pin apache i popped in there is being controlled just fine.

Would love to set them to 0 at under 30 degrees lol! cant thought :(

I found speedfan was capable of slowing my Noctua fans even when the motherboard and accompanying software refused to do anything. Gigabyte board though. I've only got it working at two speeds depending on a single reference temperature but it works.
