Has any body attempted changing the backlight on their laptop? Mines a Dell precision m60. I had a previous thread asking why my monitor goes off but have since realised it is only the backlight going out. It lasts about 20 seconds before its gone but as soon as the little plug under the button strip to the screen is removed and replaced, its back on for another 20 seconds.

Im no computer techy guy but am quite capable of taking things apart and rebuilding.

It would be a shame to scrap it if its a fairly inexpensive fix.

@ beermonster...thanks for your reply in my previous thread. What are your thoughts now im fairly sure its the back light.

Once again, Thanks in advance

Rob

You'll probably just need to replace the inverter board, they cost around £15 depending on where you look.

its just a case of popping the small rubber screw masks off the screen with a small flatblade screw driver, take the screws out, ease the bezel towards you whilst spittling the edge with a thin plastic tool credit card is ideal. The inverter will be located in lcd housing or it might be on the back of the lcd. Its a small pcb with cables going in both ends.

guys, thanks for your help and sorry for the two threads on this problem. Indeed it was the inverter board thankfully. Cost a tenner :D

result !!!

Thanks Rob.
