changing utilities provider before moving into new flat?

Basically moving into a new flat on the 31st of May.

Girlfriend is cancelling/moving our contracts for Virgin/Scottish Power to the new flat.

So the current situation is. Old flat we pay direct debit and have gas/electric provided by Scottish Power.

New flat: Scottish power have on their records that they provide the Electric but not the gas. Plus I know for a fact there is a card top up system for Gas in place at the moment. Landlord says I can have this removed if I want.

So I would like Scottish power to provide gas/electric and to remove the card top up. Can this be done before we move in to the new flat?

It's normally done when you move in as they will want meter reads on the day you move in. However nothing to stop you phoning SP and asking re the top up meter.
